First of all what is online identity? In my opinion, I think online identity is all about online interpersonal relationships and how they connect with each others. In 1996, a program called 'ICQ' appeared on computer as the first instant messaging software, the word 'ICQ' is the homophonic of 'I seek you'. Since then, internet began to rise. At that time, we were only able to text to each other by a code, the fact is, you can type random code in the section and find someone else to chat with. It was kind of worth to waste time on it, you felt satisfy and shock on how science and technology effect us so much, but when you start over now to think how 'ICQ' work in the past, you may feel non sense of security were in it, everyone can add you by using your code and you do not even know who they are, no profile or image to check who they are, even hard to say if they exist or not, a male or a female? By the time, 'MSN' started to rise, they improve the layout and function of 'ICQ' and became the new trending application at that time. In 2004, 'Facebook' first revealed on the internet. The function of 'Post' became the most popular thing to do at that time, posting any photos or a single paragraph to gain views and likes, and gain attention. By that, people on internet started to craft their online identities by photos and paragraphs. I do not really trust on these kind of online identities, although people keep uploading staff to craft their online identities, their are still some fake information in it. I'd like to talk my personal experience on online identity in the next post.
